In one of Peru's poorest regions, the cost of uniforms, supplies, and school fees is enough to keep a child out of the classroom. The Ministry's scholarship program removes those barriers — covering the expenses that stand between a child and an education.
Scholarship recipients are identified through the Sisters of Mercy, who work directly in the community and know the families most in need. Each student sponsored receives funds for school enrollment, uniforms, books, and basic supplies for the academic year.
The impact reaches beyond the individual child. When one child in a family gets an education, the expectation rises for the next. Families begin to see school not as a luxury, but as a path — and that shift changes the trajectory of entire households.
Many scholarship recipients have gone on to complete secondary school and pursue vocational training or university education — opportunities that would have been unthinkable without support.
